With anti-porn initiatives being launched on a monthly basis there are growing concerns about increasing numbers of campaigners becoming addicted to the initiatives themselves.
The following letter – one of hundreds we receive every day – illustrates the extent of the problem. The author wishes to remain anonymous.
Given the seriousness of the issue we will print the letter using a bigger font.
Dear Sir,
My name is Stephen and I am addicted to anti-porn campaigns. I write to you just after having denounced 213 pornographic sites to the authorities. It has taken me 7 hours to do so but now I feel good enough about myself to be able to write to you. The next proper fix – an event organised by XXX Church called Unscripted 2007 – is over a month away and I can’t wait that long.
Campaigning against porn gives me a buzz, a rush I cannot do without. It makes me confident and I feel I can do anything I want. I can not describe to you the sensation I get when I campaign against porn. Nothing comes close, nothing else matters.
My wife has left me because I have been pre-emptively campaigning against her for the porn she might access in the future. I’ve lost my job because I felt the urge to check every attachment being sent by email by anyone in the company. I was arrested after I chained myself to a banana tree accusing it to want to promote pornography by growing penis-shaped fruit.
I can’t go on like this. I know I have a problem and don’t know what to do about it. There are no support groups for this kind of addiction. My local church will not help me.
The irony of it all is that I actually enjoy pornography. When I get my fix and have a few hours of normality I usually surf the web for porn, which is how I found your site. But when I come off the high rest assured that I WILL DO EVERYTHING I CAN TO TAKE YOUR SITE DOWN!
All the best,
Stephen XXXXXX
Back in October we published an article supporting the White Ribbon Against Pornography campaign. Our position on this issue remains the same, but we are equally concerned about addiction to anti-porn campaigning.
The Free Porn Times would like to invite those organisations that are involved in anti-porn activities to recognise this problem and take the necessary steps to ensure support is given to addicts like Stephen.
