Last century the world fell in love with Gone With The Wind and the turbulent love affair set during the American Civil War. This new millennium we finally see a movie that follows a ‘wind’ theme that can be considered a worthy sequel of the 1939 classic.
In Fartman: Caught in a Tight Ass romance and tragedy are articulated in a more contemporary dynamic, but this is to be expected as it’s set in our times and not during the civil war — attention the historical detail remains important.
If reserve and subtlety provided excitement to cinemagoers in 1939 petulance engages the public in 2007. There is no better interpretation than this than in Fartman’s performance.
Good vs Evil: It’s All Good
Good vs Evil is the underlying theme and Fartman’s nemesis, Tight Ass, represents the same negative aspects of society during the civil war: conflict, greed and betrayal. This is most obvious when Tight Ass has Fartman and Miss Labia in a tight spot (not ass) and explains in great detail the mechanism that will kill them both:
“…above your head is a pot, the pot is connected to a string, the string runs into my roommate Ed’s bedroom and the string is tied to the diaphragm inside his girlfriend’s vagina. When he reaches climax he will pull his penis from her vagina causing the diaphragm to fly in the air, causing the pot to spill over releasing my newest invention…”
Now compare this to what Rhett tells Scarlett in a tense moment of confrontation:
“It seems we’ve been at cross purposes, doesn’t it? But it’s no use now. As long as there was Bonnie, there was a chance that we might be happy. I liked to think that Bonnie was you, a little girl again, before the war, and poverty had done things to you. She was so like you, and I could pet her, and spoil her, as I wanted to spoil you. But when she went, she took everything.”
Whilst the parallel may not be obvious at first reading between the lines is where you find significance. When Rhett says as “I wanted to spoil you” he is, in fact, referring to the act of defecating.
Complex Characters, Pungent Words, And Wind
Culture and historical context are made more interesting by the richness and complexity of the characters and their relationships. Fartman’s language, for example, may sound more informal compared to Rhett’s, but his words are just as pungent – like when he describes his ultimate weapon:
“A silent one. They’re deadly”
Drama, tragedy, hope and joy come together in 5 beautiful words.
A Classic That Out-Cults Gone With The Wind
One shouldn’t be surprised about the quality and intellectual depth and breadth of Fartman: Caught in a Tight Ass when you consider it’s Howard Stern’s brainchild. This is the same Howard Stern who featured in Issue 42 of the Free Porn Times (“Woman Requires Partner To Wear Howard Stern Mask Because It Rhymes With ‘Sperm’”) and, no doubt, a future Oscar winner. Fartman is expected to win over 23 Oscars next year, beating by a massive margin the 11 won by Gone With The Wind.
