The Hun’s Yellow Pages is the daddy of all free porn sites. Since 1996 it has been delivering thousands of TGP links via a homepage that has pretty much remained the same. But does their statement "The Only Bookmark You Need" still hold?

At the time of writing The Hun ranks 2,240 on alexa.com whilst yobt.com is at 683 and pornotube.com at 274. We can safely say that The Hun, despite its longevity, is by no means the top free porn site.
More surprisingly, the site doesn’t seem to rank in the top 1,000 for the term ‘free porn’ on Google.
A very Dutch approach
What kind of operation is The Hun? The picture that comes to mind is of a bunch of very chilled out webmasters puffing away at big fat joints as they approve and reject submissions. Before they know it 10 years have passed and they’re doing the same thing (but are much wealthier for it).
This is only an imperssion. Obviously The Hun is being operated by a bunch of very chilled out guys that have sex 24 hours day with gorgeous dutch girls as they approve and reject submissions.
The old magic formula: links with a personality
Why change the formula if it works? Why bother with marketing when people know where to go to get the porn they like?
The Hun is like a buddy who has never failed to show up at your place for a few drinks when you’ve felt like one or 15. A totally chilled out guy that never bullshits you. A bit like the Dude from The Big Lebowski but a little bit more proactive.
As a brand, that’s as good as you can get and that’s why we all keep going back.
The formula works because it’s simple: you are looking for links to porn and you are getting… links to porn. No more, no less.
Innovation with moderation
Whilst the site hasn’t changed there have been a few additions: the Thumb’s-UP page brings a little colour (and sex) to The Hun’s yellowness. There is an old school #IRC chat room , the Hun’s Gazette promising “Hints, tricks and other useful information for the Internet User” and a well stocked Video & Toy store.
So not much in terms of innovation, no.
The future?
More of the same, no doubt.
A radical change of the design would make the site a stranger. What if a new buddy brings along cheap beer and talks out of his arse?
This may mean losing market share to the new batch of youtube porno-clones. But does the old viking care?
Final thougths
The Hun gets a lower score for design not because we don't appreciate that it hasn't changed over the years, but because we think that the original design could have been better in the first place.
